Michael Tierney - Lead Consultant

With deep expertise in technical communication and ASD-STE100, Michael Tierney specializes in transforming complex documentation into clear, compliant content that supports global operations.

Michael's brings a methodical approach to streamlining workflows, optimizing clarity, and reducing risk across industries such as aerospace, manufacturing, IT, and life sciences. Whether you are launching a new product or updating legacy documents, Michael's guidance ensures your technical content speaks with precision .

Additionally, Michael advocates for the integration of Simplified Technical English (STE) into academic programs, helping universities and training institutes equip students with the skills to produce standardized, globally accessible documentation. Through curriculum development and guest instruction, Michael is supporting the next generation of technical communicators in mastering STE principles for real-world application.

Michael is an expert in STE. Michael is a former member of the ASD-STE100 STEMG (nominated by Boeing). The STEMG maintains the ASD-STE100 Standard. He has trained over 250 Boeing engineers and authors around the world through 2025.

Michael's experience with STE came back in 1989. This is when he was designing, developing and delivering industrial film quality machinery to the Hollywood movie industry. He trained studio personnel on the use of his equipment. This equipment is designed for silver recovery and water recycling.

Michael noticed the gap between the complicated operating manuals and the work-team's level of English proficiency. This was characterized by the work-team's inability to understand the complex descriptions and operating instructions. It was the manual's text. The complex grammatical structures, vocabulary and communication were confusing to them.

Michael looked for a solution and found STE. He completely rewrote all operating, service and trouble-shooting manuals using STE. This recognition and rework was beneficial to the studios and their employees. In fact, the return on investment was six months. It additionally earned Michael an Academy Award (OSCAR), in the scientific and technical achievement category.

Those same principles in the ASD-STE100 Standard are applied today with his training in all industries.
